Capturing and follow-up of the European Hamster

24 juin 2015

In April, when European Hamsters come out of hibernation, ONCFS teams begin studying the populations. On the LIFE parcels, they capture animals in order to mark them and be able to follow them later on. Animals are weighed, measured, micro-chipped and registered. When hibernation conditions are conducive, some hamsters that were already identified the year before because of their micro-chips, are recaptured.

This follow-up allows us to access the impact of agricultural actions carried out on the parcels.
